Michel Dugas

Michel Dugas est un psychologue.

Il est un chef de file au niveau international dans le domaine du traitement du trouble d’anxiété généralisée (TAG). Il a été psychologue à la clinique des troubles anxieux du Pavillon Albert Prévost et professeur à l’Université Concordia pendant 15 ans puis est devenu directeur du Laboratoire des troubles d’anxiété à l’UQO.

Pendant ses études de doctorat, le professeur Dugas a élaboré un modèle et un traitement psychologique du TAG fondé sur sa théorie, selon laquelle l’inquiétude pathologique est une réponse non adaptée à l’incertitude. Son modèle de l’intolérance à l’incertitude a transformé la façon dont scientifiques et cliniciens conceptualisent et traitent les personnes atteintes du TAG, qui, nous le savons maintenant, est un problème de santé grave et chronique, qui nuit à la santé physique et la qualité de vie. Son modèle demeure une théorie prééminente et est utilisé dans le monde entier, y compris par le programme Improved Access to Psychological Therapies du Royaume-Uni.

Il a reçu en 2017 le prix Donald O.Henn de la Société Canadienne de Psychologie pour son travail exceptionnel. La Société canadienne de psychologie décrit le professeur Dugas comme suit : « Scientifique chevronné, le Dr Dugas a publié plus de 90 articles examinés par les pairs, deux livres et 15 chapitres de livre. Il a fait plus de 300 présentations dans le monde entier, a été cité plus de 9 000 fois et est l’un des rares chercheurs à influencer la recherche en psychologie au Canada tant dans les publications de langue française que de langue anglaise. Par le truchement des diverses fonctions universitaires importantes qu’il a occupées, autant comme membre de comités qu’évaluateur externe pour le compte de plusieurs organismes subventionnaires et revues, et comme administrateur de la SCP et de l’ACTCC, il a apporté énormément à son département, son université et sa discipline. »
